The story follows Scott Jordan, a sharp-witted New York trial lawyer who frequently moonlights as an investigator. 

Jordan is approached to provide legal counsel to a eccentric, headline-grabbing wealthy young heiress who has an artistic streak and a history of bad marriages. Before he can properly help her, she turns up dead. 

As Jordan dives into the investigation to find her killer, he gets tangled in an intricate plot involving a fortune, deceptive underworld characters, corporate manipulations, and a trail of men who were after her money but found a bizarre pattern of death instead. Jordan must use both his fists and his deep understanding of legal loopholes to dodge the police, survive attacks from thugs, and unmask the real mastermind behind the heiress's murder.
