Written by American agriculturalist Claude L. Fly, the book is a spiritual reflection born out of profound personal trial. In 1970, while working in South America, Fly was kidnapped by Tupamaro guerrillas in Uruguay and held hostage in a tiny, windowless cell for 208 days. During his captivity—facing constant isolation, physical deterioration, and a near-fatal heart attack—he leaned heavily on his Christian faith to survive. 

Upon his release and recovery, he authored this book to share how absolute reliance on God can sustain a person when all worldly hope is stripped away.
