Album Notes The Warped Tour has become a vitally important part of modern punk rock culture, as each years finds another batch of great contemporary punk bands reaching thousands of listeners across the country. The sonic document of the 2002 tour makes it plain why Warped has proven to be such a successful phenomenon. The bands range from commercially successful, relatively big new bands (Sum 41, Alkaline Trio, Good Charlotte) to old-school flag-bearers/cult heroes (Murphy's Law, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones), and more obscure (at least to mainstream ears) artists like Destruction Made Simple, Divit, and Against All Authority. The one thing that binds all these groups together is their adherence both to punk's fast-loud-short verities and a commitment to tight dynamics and catchy, melodic songcraft. |
